Long overdue in the UK. Social platforms should regulate content, to remove harmful content & misinformation - since they haven't, a ban becomes necessary. This is a problem for all ages not just children - blurring of truth & fiction is a huge problem.

Datacentre power and water use to double by 2030 via @computing_news. Very alarming prediction - something urgently needs to be done to reduce energy use for data centres as AI expands use globally.

Absolutely right & a demonstration of his leadership & suitability as PM. Social media steals time from children (and adults) when they should be experiencing life in the real world, face to face with friends. Social media is useful to connect, promote events, but can be harmful
I am simply not prepared to be a bystander when the safety and happiness of our children are at stake.
We will ban social media access for under 16s, and give children their childhoods back.

Long overdue fir children, and in general we should be a lot stricter on content for social media platforms in general (for all ages). The biggest risk on these platforms is the blurring of truth and fiction - and with AI this is becoming worse.

@MannGeorgia@BBCRadio3 Damn forgot to suggest this in time: the theme from The Third man, why? Main character is "Harry" (Lime) played by Orson Welles, who famously played Citizen "Kane" - et voila the England captain.
@MannGeorgia@BBCRadio3 Great playlister GM & R3 team, somehow you worked my fav Composer Shostakovich into the lineup. Halfway through I had to stop for cramp, but was revived by orange quarters. Four great bangers to nil, you managed to avoid extra time and penalty shoot out.
The current violence is totally unjustified. The tragic knife attack in Belfast was a criminal offence that will be dealt with by the law. We cannot have people committing further crimes, like assault & disorder, using the Belfast attack as justification.

Tragic loss of centuries of craft skills, home sourced and produced tableware - a situation that has occurred since the 1960s, accelerated by globalisation as manufacturing moved to Asia.

This 💯 percent. Putin's war was his choice, every single loss of life, Ukrainian & Russian is on him. He could stop now, he will never "win", there is no good to come from continuing this war. Perhaps one day Putin will face the consequences of this illegal war.
Open Letter
To the President of the Russian Federation
From the President of Ukraine
When you came to power in Russia more than 26 years ago, many people in Ukraine viewed you positively. That is how it was. But that is now in the past.
Now, the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians view it positively that our long-range drones paid a visit to the opening of your forum in St. Petersburg, covering a distance of more than 1,000 kilometers. As you know very well, that distance is not the limit of our capabilities.
This is exactly right. Why buy American or any foreign developed software. Critical UK infrastructure such as Health, defence, etc should use UK developed software.
People can’t seem to get it into their heads that without a functioning healthy planet you have no economy, no food, no AI, no wealth, no jobs, no security at all, nothing, that’s it, period, over.
Wake up, for fucks sake.
@simonmontefiore A grim statistic, and a pointless loss of life, for Russian citizens and for Ukraine. Putin is solely to blame, and should one day take responsibility & face consequences for his actions.

This is exactly right. I voted for Labour in my area that has been Tory for decades hoping for a Labour Govt, and Starmer as PM. Yes they've made mistakes, but in a very challenging world backdrop, but I want them to carry on with Starmer.
So just to sum up. Labour win a 174 seat majority under Keir Starmer and return to power after almost a decade and a half. They find governing challenging against the backdrop of struggling public services and low growth, and make unforced errors (winter fuel, Mandelson etc). Social media conspiracies, led by Elon Musk, contribute to a toxic political climate. Nigel Farage, the architect-in-chief of Brexit (which made things harder than they needed to be) pops up with his divisive rhetoric and poorly thought through policies and… Labour MPs, egged on by the media, panic. If Andy Burnham, a man without a plan, wins a staged by-election, he likely becomes Prime Minister. He then either calls a general election and loses Labour its hard fought majority, or struggles through for a couple of years before Farage is better “prepared” to move into Number 10. Stupid doesn’t cover it.
Garry Kasparov sees the situation so clearly. Ukraine is on the frontline for free and democratic countries and we do just about the minimum to help them.
A reminder that Russia is waging a terrorist war on Ukraine, and a reminder that standing by and watching are the richest nations on Earth, controlling the most powerful military alliance in history, an alliance created specifically to stop Russia in Europe. Sickening.
The war has reached a dangerous stage of escalation. Putin must be made to back down using all possible means - he cannot be seen to gain from this heinous war of aggression. Every other country must put Putin under extreme pressure to stop this war.

British Steel should be publically owned, like all key assets. Gareth Stace of UK Steel said "Maintaining domestic production capability for British Steel products is essential not only for economic growth but also for our national security & resilience"

These county council elections have shown that our fptp voting system is not representative of the population. It's long overdue that some kind of proportional system is introduced, but I'm afraid this is still many years off.

@PrfChrisPainter@arthur_spirling Agree. Farage in my opinion is wholly unsuitable as prime. But with around 25 % of the vote share Reform deserves a voice. Bearing in mind 75% did not vote Reform. We have firmly entered multi party politics, and we should now have / demand a more proportional system of voting.
@PrfChrisPainter Interesting you used the word coalition. Reform did well but still only had a vote share of 25%. So perhaps this is the only way forward for any party is to join in coalition with another. So Labour with Green and/or Libdem. Or Reform with Tory. Could that save Starmer?
