I’m Igbo so I’ll speak for my tribe

~All those visits to maternal and paternal sides with goats and yams to announce the death of a loved one
~The mandatory umuada and umunna list that must be fulfilled before a burial holds. I’m talking tea, coolers of food , money , drinks.
~ cooking , serving food and dancing for days ..all expenses on the family of the deceased.

A burial shouldn’t even be a ceremony . It’s not a thing of joy . Why do we celebrate especially if the person died young?
In Africa , there’s absolutely no difference between a marriage ceremony and a burial except the tears and casket . We print banners and fliers, we give out uniforms , T-shirts and share TFC gifts.

People should be giving to the grieving family not taking . Feed them , cry with them , help them ( that’s how it is with whites) . Families have ended up bankrupt after a burial. Why should it be so?

A culture that takes and takes and offers no emotional, financial or mental support should end .
