"Big Hopes" was named in 2018, after my mom called me on the phone for the first time in about 12 years of us not seeing each other.
​I had actually stolen her number from my uncle's phone and called her on my own time. After we talked on the phone for a while, she asked, "So, you have a personal phone now?" and I responded, "Yes."
​After I called her a couple of times, she called me one day and asked, "Why is it that whenever you call, you don't even dare to ask about your father, whom you haven't seen all these years?"
​I responded, "I don't care about him because he never cared about me."
​She replied, "Who said he never cared about you?"
​I responded, "If he cared about me, he wouldn't have abandoned me here in Abuja alone, not knowing how I manage to survive."
​She responded, "No, you're getting it wrong. Your father does care about you very much, and he has never abandoned you. Rather, he sent you to live with your uncle knowing you would survive, and because he wants what is best for you. He wants you to have a life he can't provide for you. So, don't ever say your father doesn't care or doesn't love you, because he does care about you. As a matter of fact, he never goes a day without praying for you and wishing you well."
