JOHN LLOYD OR PIOLO?
It seems that Sagip party-list Rep. Paolo Henry Marcoleta was confused as to which movie character he should quote when he made a manifestation during the House committee on justice’s hearing on Wednesday.
Marcoleta dared the committee to open a box from BIR which contains Vice President Sara Duterte’s tax records. In doing so, he said that like a certain “Popoy” who asked for an acceptable reason, there should be a strong case for opening the box.
Marcoleta: Marahil ay inaasahan niyo na ako po ay magbibigay ng manipestasyon para tutulan ang pagbubukas ng box na ‘yan mula sa BIR. Ang katunayan po ako po ay di tututol. You may go ahead and open it all you want, sabi nga ni Madam Chair, hawak niya ang beat, sino ba naman ako para pigilan ito.
"So I dare the committee to open the box, but with a caveat: siguraduhin niyo po na hindi kayo nakalalabag sa batas. At sinabi rin po ni Popoy sa pelikula, ‘I deserve an explanation, I deserve an acceptable reason.’ Siguraduhin niyo po na kung bubuksan niyo ‘yan, meron po kayong acceptable reason na aayon sa batas," he adds.
Popoy refers to a role played by actor John Lloyd Cruz on the movies One More Chance and A Second Chance — his movies with actress Bea Alonzo.
However, the line that Marcoleta mentioned belonged to a character from another actor — Piolo Pascual, during his scene with Toni Gonzaga in 2014 movie Starting Over Again.
This misplaced reference was not lost on Akbayan party-list Rep. Percival Cendaña, who manifested before the committee that Marcoleta got the characters wrong.
Cendaña: Alam ko pong hinihintay ng taumbayan ang desisyon sa pagbubukas ng kahon, pero may nabanggit po kasi kanina na Popoy at Basha na line po si Rep. Marcoleta. In-attribute po niya ‘yong explanation, deserve an explanation kay Popoy. Hindi po siya kay Popoy.
Ito po ay kay Papa P, kay Piolo Pascual, sa pelikulang Starting Over Again. And I hope as we decide on this matter, this will not lead us to starting over again. | @GabrielLaluINQ

Let us #PrayTogether that the leaders of nations may be free from the temptation to use wealth against humanity, turning it into weapons that destroy peoples and monopolies that demean workers. Whoever serves God becomes free from wealth, but whoever serves wealth remains its slave! Whoever seeks justice transforms wealth into the common good; whoever seeks domination transforms the common good into the prey of their own greed.
