Few things I’ve learned as it relates to serious AI-assisted software development:
- You MUST do the hard part 👉 thinking (your instructions or spec or business domain docs need to be super high quality)
- Provide a trim but solid set of operating guidelines
- Work in highly focused “phased” units of work
- Give AI the ability to evaluate its own work (invest heavily here)
I’ve experienced high quality results working within these bounds and managed to keep AI from going off the rails.
@aarondfrancis@IanLandsman listening to More Kids = More Productive and I’m sorry Ian, Aaron is right about this one! I have ten children ages from 1 to 18 and if I don’t have high focus during working hours, I won’t be able to properly focus on family after work. I have literally shared the exact “focusing effect” sentiment with co-workers Aaron talked about. I will say context matters, I don’t work at a high paced software mill though I am building on the side thanks to AI.
@threepointone Google has a “just bash” called ZX, been around for a while. Fork it or just use it: https://t.co/KQm5jmzS9B
Or maybe I’m misunderstanding the problem (probably)
They say AI is the end for developers.
They say the job market is gone.
They say learning to code is pointless.
I don’t buy it.
I think we're just getting started.
I'm not even joking I went to this ~300 person wedding last weekend, I'm in a sparkly tux, the music is on, dancing is starting, someone comes up to me and whispers in my ear "if you're here, it means Ghostty still doesn't have search" and walks off. Oh no! 🤣
@jeffrey_way In the future, AI will likely replace a significant number of product-related roles. Broad experience (with some depth) will likely be important in securing one of these roles.
@kentcdodds You can route your internet through a public ad blocker DNS like AdGuard’s. This has some drawbacks like not being able to allowlist URL’s that mistakenly get blocked. However, you you don’t mind maintaining a Raspberry PI, that gives you the most control.
@charliekirk11 @KaelanDorr The site very likely belongs to Kamala (.com not .gov), the question is…was this 404 page created with or without Kamala’s approval? 😅
