I had my first police case last week. (I avoid police matters with all my life, but this one was dear to my heart.) And I can assure you, proving a point is rarely the way to go.

I started off that way, but at some point I realized it was only infuriating them, so I climbed down from my high horse. I quickly learned that massaging egos and being diplomatic got far better results.

We began to gist, laugh, and talk about how the police and lawyers are two sides of the same coin in the criminal justice system, and how we shouldn't always be at loggerheads. I asked how they managed to rest despite working round the clock, and just generally built rapport. Eventually, I got invited into their office, so I knew something was working. 1/2

They nabbed him and took him to the station o! He was now prostrating to beg! They have held him, requesting a surety. He wrote a letter of undertaking too.
