@Giulianoimanol It is the resolution too actually, and the upscaling filter used to smooth and interpolate the low resolution image. The game only renders at a quarter of the resolution, 1080p in docked and 540p in handheld.
@Willem_Pijl@SMetaldave64 There is no FSR/DLSS, it’s because handheld has been lowered to 540p but they’re trying to use SMAA and interpolation to cover it up
why are people so eager and hopeful to think the xenoblade x refunds are fake news... do people not want the devs to know users have issues with the product? its so confusing to me, why wouldnt you want them to patch out an issue
@SMetaldave64 You can play the switch 1 version with output to 4K too, but that has nothing to do what the game is actually rendering.
Saying “up to 4k” is misleading marketing - the resolution is not increased over the switch 1 version whatsoever, and in handheld it is lowered. 1080p and 540p
@DJK1NG_Gaming The problem is that the resolution is worse than Switch 1. This is a really bad showcase, BotW and TotK didn't have any issues running at double the framerate and total resolution.
@DJK1NG_Gaming@Thatonegum The resolution in handheld mode (540p) is just 56% of the 720p that it was before on the switch 1, and the anti-aliasing and upscaling is significantly worse. So clearly it does not look better
@MLuigi76585@NintendoAmerica Yes, I did, using the edge of the counter. There are 30 steps per 30 vertical pixels tested test in dock mode, and 15 steps on handheld mode. This gives native 1080 and 540 respectively
@W_H_Trail@PlayerEssence It does look like that in your pic though too, it’s just not as noticeable from afar. It’s affecting all of the geometry and even texture detail getting smeared together into swirl patterns like on the bushes and trees. The resolution is 540p, 44% lower than Switch 1 on handheld
@DXBNIN@PlayerEssence It’s clearly not a perfect patch, my overclocked switch 1 can do 60fps at 720p in handheld mode, and yet the switch 2 update pixel counts to only 540p. Something is clearly not optimized here, or they’re trying to save battery life like they did with XC2 handheld.
@LavishLightsk1n @TriforceZard@NintendoAmerica It's not actually 4k, it's still 1080p but just with an ugly pixel smoothing filter and SMAA instead of FXAA. The filter causes strange swirling artifacts in textures & smearing, causing people to call it "AI." And in handheld the resolution is lowered from 720-504p to just 540p
@CattailXC Since the other games were already using temporal solutions and have motion vector data available, I doubt this will be an issue. X was a port from an older version of their engine and only had FXAA implemented, which they changed to SMAA for the NS2 update
