Miguel Vargas is such a stud. Looks like the guy who was a top 40 prospect in baseball. Gene Watson, Chris Getz and company nailed that acquisition. #WhiteSox
Coaches and Scouts,
The game will demand your eyes, your instincts, your expertise and your reports, but don’t let it take away your awareness of the people right in front of you.
It takes intention. It doesn’t happen by accident between innings or in the rush of evaluations. You have to decide ahead of time, that today won’t just be about tools, metrics, wins, losses or projections—it will be about people. You will be surrounded by them today.
Look around. There’s a player who’s hanging on by a thread of confidence. There’s an assistant coach who feels unseen. There’s a parent carrying quiet anxiety. There’s a scout who’s worn down by the grind.
Think of ways to encourage, build up and motivate.
Not grand gestures—specific ones. A word that rebuilds belief instead of just correcting flaws. A moment of patience when frustration would be easier. A conversation that goes beyond performance and into purpose. The extra minute you don’t “technically” have.
Love in this game looks like presence. It looks like honesty without abrasiveness. It looks like choosing to develop the person, not just evaluating the player.
Don’t wait for the “right moment.” The right moment is the one right in front of you—at the cage, on the bus, behind the backstop, in the stands, or in the parking lot. Those are the small spaces where impact actually happens.
You’re already influencing lives, whether you mean to or not. The challenge is to do it on purpose.
So today, as you track pitches, grade swings, or coach them up, ask yourself: Who needs encouragement from me right now?
Who needs to be seen? Where can I turn a routine interaction into something that actually builds someone up?
Take advantage of every opportunity that God places in your path today, not just to advance the game, but to strengthen the people in it.
Because long after the stats are filed away, what remains is who you helped, how you led, and whether your presence made others better, not just as an athlete, but as people.
Think of ways….Then act on them today.
We are bigger, faster, stronger than we’ve ever been as humans. We have tech to aid in creating the most efficient movement patterns that generate maximum velocity. I believe we have hit our evolutionary cap as far as the force the human body can tolerate in regard to the torque we are able to create.
We know how to build the engines but it feels like the frame just can’t handle the horsepower.
There’s a lot more nuance to this aside from “guys just throw too hard” which we will discuss on Mondays newest episode of @baseballisdead_
Jake Knapp ran out of money while trying to qualify for the PGA Tour, so he spent 9 months working as a bouncer at a nightclub to keep his dream alive.
Now, just 2 years later, he has won the PGA Tour's Mexico Open, taking home $1.45 million.
It also got him into the Masters.
AP's @RalphDRussoAP: "Was there ever a point where you thought this wouldn't be possible?"
Sark: "Yeah. Hell yeah, I did. Jeez. I was out of work. Couldn't get an interview.... We don't have to stay where we are in life."
Inspiring.

I love this: Practice squad players usually are not on the sideline for games.
#Raiders HC Antonio Pierce changed that and made sure they were for his first game as head coach.
His explanation tells you all you need to know about why the players are all in for him.
This is a players coach. This is so good.
