Omo, hearing this made me realize I didn’t study Leviticus and Deuteronomy in vain for 12 months without reading any other scripture.

You will need to understand the technicalities of the law to provide a broad view of the scripture of women shouldn’t wear what belongs to a man and vice versa.

So, under the law, discharge from the body is considered unclean and when they stay on your clothes, the cloth is unclean too. It has an intersection between hygiene and “cloak of spirituality” as it was.

If a man goes to the toilet, you need the rinse your John Thomas. Same as woman. That’s the primary discharge.

For the woman, other discharges includes vagina discharge, menstrual discharge etc. Moses ruled that a woman is unclean whenever she’s going through her monthly discharge and they experience continuous vagina discharge. This placed a permanent ban on women on serving as spiritual leaders under the law. It’s the primary reason they didn’t serve at the tabernacle too.

All of them wears garment as cloth so it wasn’t as if male and female wore different clothing styles. Board garment with little distinction in some cases.

If anyone wears the cloth belonging to woman, you are considered unclean. It is assumed a woman would most likely had a discharge.
If you wear that of a man too, wahala.
People were meant to report themselves to the priest once you consider yourself unclean based on the law.
If you go wear cloth of person wey don report his/herself, na yawa be that.

So, that scripture had nothing to do with dressing per se but hygiene mostly.
