I've found that the largest contributor to guns in cars in parking lots is...wait for it...gun free zones.
Like any smart person, who feels responsible for their own safety, would do in such a dangerous city...a lot of people carry all the time and have a CCW. When a law abiding person who carries sees a sign on a door that says no guns...they leave it in the car.
Personally, I say carry anyway...there's an old saying that covers that.
