Poems by Abhilipsa Sahoo: ‘I was a little bird slowly blooming out of the warm embrace of the nest to learn the taste of first flight, believing that distance was proof of growth. Now I’m just tired of being the burnt-out lamp on my parents’ windowsill’

In Abhilipsa Sahoo's "The Haunting of Chill House", trendy sisters encounter an in-house ghost in tune with the times.

‘If traced on paper, life is a culmination of two axes: time and money. Add a third and, maybe, call it energy. Despite the crests and troughs, the line always resolves into the same answer: I’m not coming home this time.’

‘the wall’s long chest is marred by uneven blotches—
microcosmic clusters spanning several realities
pressed into layers of plaster. Somewhere,
inside its crevice, a brother ant must be learning
the slow grammar of fatherhood’

📜✨ Mubashira Patel wins the Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize 2025 ✨📜
The Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize 2025 has been awarded to Mubashira Patel 🎉✍️, a 26-year-old postgraduate student of Sociology at Mumbai University 🎓. Selected from a field of 126 entrants, she was chosen by a distinguished jury comprising poet Sharmistha Mohanty 🌿, founder-editor of Almost Island, along with two faculty members of the Department of English, University of Hyderabad 📖.
Mubashira, who has been writing since the age of eight ✨, describes herself as “a literature aficionado, an amateur philosopher, and a newly published poet.” Her academic and creative pursuits often intersect, engaging with themes of marginal voices and cultural memory 🌍, articulated through a lyric form and a commitment to emotional excavation 💫.

... I love this life,
I whisper into my doctor’s stethoscope
so she can hear my heart. My heart, an heirloom
I didn’t inherit until I thought I could die.
