In this collective drop, Newtro comes together to explore the concept of sovereignty and create works around it, a word that has been widely present in the current context of Argentina and across Latin America.

The legislative abuses and persistent attempts to modify laws and protections concerning Argentine territory have had a profound impact across the region. On August 6, a proposal was put forward that would open the way to the complete foreign ownership of our resources and borders, amid a crisis that is affecting our economies, threatening our identity, and limiting our possibilities for the future.

A country’s sovereignty is not only at risk when its territory is placed in foreign hands, but also when voices are silenced in the struggle over narratives and our perceptions are colonized through media manipulation. Faced with the state, corporate, and historically extractivist violence that Latin American peoples are experiencing today, and with the normalization of dispossession carried out by hegemonic powers; we believe collective art can be a powerful tool for making visible what is urgent: that sovereignty is the right we have to care for, remember, and defend our territory and all the beings that inhabit it.

Through collective making, the conversation around what sovereignty means unfolds across multiple dimensions: territorial, digital, cognitive, artistic, cultural, communal, educational, and economic. Through collaboration and the exchange of ideas, we seek to raise questions that resist the fragmentation imposed by algorithms and the dehumanization of hyperconnectivity. This drop is a call to reconnect with the domains we are being dispossessed of; affirming that art, when shared, is also sovereignty.
