Inside Man is my way of creating space
for myself, and for others like me. For African men who have never been asked,
“How do you feel?” And would even know how to answer if they were.
This film was born from personal necessity.
According to WHO, suicide remains the leading cause of death among men aged 15–49 globally. In Nigeria, less than 20% of men with mental health challenges seek help. Not because they’re okay — but because no one ever gave them language for what they’re feeling.
Mental health in African communities isn’t just under-resourced. It’s understood as shame. And that shame becomes silence. And silence becomes survival.
I grew up in a culture where men are praised for how much they can carry without showing it. Where vulnerability is called weakness. Where strength is measured by how little you feel.
