Today I had the honour of hosting Ministers and delegates attending the Connected Africa Summit 2026 for an experiential visit and official launch of the Digital Classroom at New Mukuru Primary School in Mukuru kwa Njenga.
Digital transformation must begin at the foundation of our education system. By equipping learners at the earliest stages with essential digital skills, we are expanding access to knowledge while nurturing creativity, curiosity, and confidence for a rapidly evolving world. Through connected classrooms, smart boards, and reliable connectivity, this initiative, part of our national rollout targeting 10,000 schools, is redefining learning in underserved communities.
What stands out is that this goes beyond infrastructure. It is about giving every child, regardless of background, a fair opportunity to acquire digital literacy, innovate, and participate meaningfully in the global economy. It is equally about empowering teachers and bridging long-standing education and connectivity gaps.
This milestone, supported by Huawei Kenya under its Tech4Good programme, demonstrates the power of partnerships. When government, private sector, and communities come together, we move beyond policy into real, tangible impact.
I was joined by Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy John Tanui, alongside a distinguished delegation of Ministers and leaders from across the continent, including:
- Dr. Shadric Namalomba, Minister (Malawi)
- Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister (Uganda)
- Hon. Dingumuzi Phuti, Deputy Minister (Zimbabwe)
- Odely Ndiho, Director General (Burundi)
- Mr. Harold Msusa, Principal Secretary (Malawi)
- Dr. Amina Zawedde, Principal Secretary (Uganda)
- Mohammed Lamine Rimouche, Secretary General (Algeria)
- Eng. Angelo Miguel Buta João, Principal Secretary (Angola)
- Mr. Abdou-Rachid Idris Nour, Technical Advisor (Djibouti)
We are not just connecting schools; we are unlocking potential, strengthening communities, and shaping a future-ready generation.

Kenya Set to Host 15th Connected Africa Summit in Nairobi
I am pleased to announce that the preparation for the 15th Annual Connected Africa Summit, to be held from 27 to 30 April 2026 at The Edge Convention Centre, is complete.
This year’s Summit, under the theme “Uniting Africa’s Innovation for an Inclusive Digital Market,” comes at a critical moment when the continent must take an active role in shaping its digital future.
Building on the progress of previous editions, we are shifting our focus firmly toward measurable delivery.
Our goal is to bring together Africa’s innovators, policymakers, and private sector leaders to create a digital market that is inclusive; one that serves both small-scale traders and high-growth technology enterprises across the continent.
We are convening ministers and senior representatives from across Africa, alongside key institutions such as the African Union Commission, the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat, and Smart Africa.
This Summit will deliver concrete outcomes, including an AfCFTA Digital Trade Implementation Sprint List, an African Data Space Action Note, and a pipeline of bankable digital projects spanning connectivity, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and skills development. These are practical steps aimed at reducing barriers to cross-border digital trade and strengthening Africa’s data governance systems.
We recognise the support of our sponsors which underscores the critical role of the private sector in advancing our shared digital agenda.
While Africa’s digital economy continues to grow rapidly, challenges remain: limited connectivity, high costs, and fragmented regulatory frameworks.
Through this Summit, we are working toward a unified approach where Africa can negotiate and implement digital policies collectively, rather than in isolation.
As we prepare to host delegates from across the continent and beyond, I call on all stakeholders to focus not only on the discussions, but also on the outcomes that will shape Africa’s digital transformation for years to come.
In attendance were Principal Secretary, State Department of ICT and the Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui; ICTA CEO, Mr. Jessy Maruti; Country Manager HPE - Selectium Ken Ltd, Mr. George Odula; Head of Policy and Partnership, Huawei Kenya, Mr. Adam Lane; Leadership representative from Safaricom PLC, Secretary ICT and E-Government, Mary Kirema, among other key industry players.
The countdown is on.
