Give @RimaHas her flowers👏🏾 Her takedown of the Zionist talking points is deeply satisfying. Her command of the facts, control of the room & take-no-fools attitude is giving me life.
A new work from the lab with @yongjuntan0608@SLUBiology & @jivarahasya: Genomic underpinnings of Cytoplasmic Incompatibility: CIF gene-neighborhood diversification through extensive lateral transfers and recombination in Wolbachia https://t.co/hvS75Bx4uy. @SLUResearch@SLUAandS
Si vous avez la gueule de bois de vous réveiller dans un pays à 10,8 millions de racistes et/ou vous pensez que tout est perdu... vous avez pas bien compris à quel point c'est pas du tout joué, donc j'ai trois chiffres pour vous. ⤵️
Our findings strongly support the toxin-antidote model of cytoplasmic incompatibility: loss of specific cidA (antidote) variants in females perfectly match the loss of rescuing ability.
Even cooler: these variants are "special": they are recombinants, which results in specific aminoacids being exposed at the CidA-CidB binding interface... matching the recombination in the toxin.
Using a method developed during my PhD (now published here: https://t.co/wOgynp6O89 ), we acquired Wolbachia cid repertoires of mosquitoes involved in compatible and incompatible crosses.
Monitoring crossing patterns between #Wolbachia infected #Culex over 17 years, we showed that these patterns change over time: some crosses between two previously compatible lines are now fully incompatible.
We wrote a chapter about Wolbachia in Culex, from field sampling to CI testing in the lab, feel free to reach out if you want the PDF/have any question!
Just published: A new book on Wolbachia methods! This should be a great resource for anyone working with Wolbachia-infected arthropods and cell lines in the lab.
