When I hear things like this, my blood boils.
My Cuban mother immigrated to this country at 19 without even speaking the language.
She learned quickly because she had no choice.
She was married, but divorced when I was a baby and never remarried.
She lived her entire life as a single woman.
And she worked nonstop.
Full time job. Full time school. Weekend work. Almost no sleep.
She never saw herself as a victim.
She saw the beauty of this country for what it truly is.
A place where hard work creates achievement.
Where sacrifice turns into opportunity.
Where you build a life instead of waiting for someone to hand you one.
So when I hear people acting like being a single woman excuses them from the realities of life, I cannot relate.
No one is owed an easy life.
But in this country, you are given the chance to earn a meaningful one.
At some point, you have to stand up, get off your ass, and create a life for yourself and your child.
The government does not owe you anything.
It does not have to pay your way.
