There’s this place I buy plantain every Sunday. There’s this jovial boy there, sometimes it’s him, other times it’s his mum. Funny thing is, I’ve never really seen both of them together before.

Anytime I show up,
I’ll greet him, “my padi!”

He’ll reply, “my fine fine customer!”

We’ll gist, banter, I’ll tease him small… sometimes he’ll dash me discount, other times he’ll add jara. Even if he’s in a bad mood, one or two jokes and he’s smiling again.

His mum on the other hand is Friendly… but strict. Not the smiling type.

Now today…

I got there like usual,

“My padi!”

This boy looked at me and said,

“Good afternoon ma, how can I help you?”

I paused.

That’s when I noticed his mum sitting inside the shop.

I tried to tease him like always, but he just kept a straight face:

“How much plantain do you want, ma?”

Ah.

I said I’d transfer (like I sometimes do), he quickly said no, his phone was off, he won’t see the alert.

I laughed like, “I’m not a stranger now, you’ll see it later na.”

He refused.

I then said, “Okay what about your mum’s account?”

He said I should ask her myself.

The mum said okay I should send it to her instead… At this point, I just quietly transferred to the mum, carried my plantain and left.

But I’ve been thinking since then…

So THIS is who my padi really is when mummy is around??? 😭

Do you guys remember the story of Job in the Bible?

how this man was just living peacefully, enjoying his family, his wealth, and all that God gave him… then S*tan went before God asking for permission to attack everything Job had, just to prove a point?

But here’s the part that really got me

After everything crashed, in Book of Job 3:25, Job said:

“What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.”

I think There’s a rhema in that.

Sometimes the things that should have gone well go south because deep down, we were already afraid they wouldn’t.

It made me wonder:
If Job never carried that fear of losing everything, would the enemy have used that area against him?
Did the devil see his fear and attack him right there?
