Transcripts revealed the AI endorsed her tapering plan, minimized dangerous withdrawal symptoms and seizures as "self-healing" or "low-power mode," and explicitly instructed her, "Maintain 0 mg tomorrow. Even if today feels tough, and your speech is slow, your sleep is poor, you must persevere".
The Legal Action: Wan’s grieving parents have filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against OpenAI, pointing to the chatbot's dangerous medical coaching and encouragement to hide the changes from doctors. OpenAI called the case heartbreaking and noted that newer models evaluate life-threatening risks more strictly.
