What kind of a person -paid to write about current events- would censor themselves to not comment on the issue of the day because the details -the truth, let’s be clear- might “help” people considered their opponents? Is this the behaviour of someone with integrity?
Number of people asking me to comment on the Henry Nowak case. His father said "We do not want his death to be used to create further division, hatred or tension". If you can't respect his wishes, you're scum. That's what I think.
I didn’t fully appreciate the truth of this, until I realised the overwhelming reaction of people, people I knew, to the horrific things done on October 7 was “wow …the Jews must be AWFUL”
This was Hamas’s own PR: an 8-year-old hostage begging for her life. But they still won the PR battle, with the full support of Western media. If you are wondering why that is, you don’t know much about Jew-hate.
The UK’s justice system evolved in a high-trust society. For a variety of reasons, we now live in a low-trust society. That transition has happened very fast.
The challenge is this: how do we adapt our justice system to a low-trust society without losing hard-won rights and freedoms?
I read a comment on this thread yesterday (no credit to me) that said…why does the male relative have enough cash to buy the child bride but not enough decency to help out financially to stop his relatives from starving. Whoever made that comment should be replacing the journalist who wrote this piece.
Why doesn’t this BBC story examine why there’s a market for fathers selling their young daughters to other men in the first place? What a strange omission - it’s like the reality that these girls are being sold as child brides to be raped by adult men is invisible or something.

"Kano is one of the grooviest cities in Nigeria today. A visit to most of the nightclubs will convince anyone that show business is flourishing in this ancient city. Women don't cling too much to men. You will always see unaccompanied women just out to enjoy themselves."
my investigation, which documents how the boko haram army was formed, trained, and organized, as well as the sociological factors that made that kind of radicalisation possible, is out now at @HumAngle_.

Oh my days @hackneycouncil have properly fucked up this Amhurst road renovation, it’s a standing bus jam. And when a police car or an Ambulance come this way, there is nowhere for anyone to move to let it through, because the road has been narrowed with plant beds
@ediz1975@hackneycouncil Police car is trying to get through the gridlock. The only thing traffic in the oncoming lane can do is stand still, but that means the lane the police car, or ambulance, can’t move forward because traffic can’t move through everyone who’s inched forward into Pembury Circus
@ediz1975@hackneycouncil Same bit of Amhurst Road in January, when work was underway. This ambulance was stuck because traffic was down to one lane and cars kept coming. The paramedic had to get out and direct traffic. It’s really no better with two lanes when they’re packed with stationary buses
