Lukewarm take: SBG is fine, but I'd rather spend my mental energy on instruction and getting the Ss thinking, and not spend it on minutia of assigning grades. I'd much rather be assessing the Ss and immediately reading & reacting instead of trying to catalog every little change.
With some heavy inspiration from @samjshah2, I've started writing students' families via classroom postcards. It's a natural progression of my Friday Letters routine.
