The wildest 24 hours yet for college sports unfolded here on Capitol Hill yesterday: Wednesday night negotiations between heavyweight leagues and US senators that failed to reach a compromise; a two-thirds vote in committee; and more sharp words from powerful lawmakers

#Hokies' AD search committee has conducted initial interviews via Zoom and will soon commence in-person conversations with finalists, likely in metropolitan Washington, D.C.

⬇️This is directly out of MLB’s statement. While the real reason for this proposal is to save owners money, it’s only being offered because of the growth of college baseball and the quality of coaching and development the modern player receives. This will be interesting to follow
College head coaches, assistants, recruiting coordinators and league administrators offered their reactions to MLB’s proposal to radically change the amateur draft process to @BaseballAmerica:

MLB today proposed an overhauled domestic amateur-entry system that removes high school players from the draft, makes college players eligible after sophomore year, shortens the draft from 20 to 12 rounds, and cuts bonus pool from current $358.7M to $200M, sources tell ESPN.
Long before Johnson led multiple Sooners teams to the MCWS finals or led strong pitching staffs under Augie Garrido at Texas, he regularly drove 90
minutes from Corsicana to Dallas to give lessons (often unpaid) to a young Clayton Kershaw.
He’s a great coach and baseball man
On Oklahoma…
I enjoyed being around their fans and team in Omaha, and loved how they were enjoying the ride. Listening to Skip Johnson talk about his team in pressers made it easy to understand why they play hard and loose, and he talks about quality traits in his opponents with a sincerity that is uncommon
Takes a hell of a coach to turn those early struggles into an asset that has let OU play with a nothing to lose type of energy. OU-UNC will be must see TV.
NEWS: Here’s the new deal for J Batt at Kentucky. He’ll average $3 million per year over six years. The school will also pay his Michigan State buyout, per the contract. This puts him in top-tier of AD payment in SEC and nationally.

Much has been made of the turnover at the AD spot in the ACC but just in the last 24 months, GT, VT, Clemson, Wake, Virginia, Cuse, BC, Lou, NCSU, SMU, Miami, UNC, Cal and Stanford have all had a change at president/chancellor.
Duke’s Vincent Price is only holdover from pre-Covid.
Duke & FSU are only ACC schools w/same AD & president on the job for more than 3 years.
The biggest takeaway from this situation is all the lessons that we can glean. From the current reality of sports gambling, the NCAA’s governing authority, the law’s impact on college sports, athletic department PR management, NIL, and the transfer portal, we’ve learned a lot

Sources tell @On3 that Kentucky is working to hire Michigan State’s J Batt as its next athletic director.
Deal is not finalized but Wildcats are pushing to get this done. One of the top fundraisers in college sports.

Lemonis was in a position to be very selective with the next job he took. While Schnall leaving is obviously a tough pill to swallow for Coastal, it’s rare you can replace him with a national champion. Will be exciting to see a refreshed and motivated Lemonis in Conway
