Really? @BBCNews@BBC You have chartered or paid for a helicopter presumably funded by us the TV license holders to give us an overhead 'live' picture of a train with Andy Burnham. Do you actually think that was needed?
Welcome the next captain of the Titanic. Former Army officer, @DanJarvisMBE becomes the new Secretary of State for Defence.
His main task will be explaining why the government is unwilling to fund its own Defence Review.
Forget about Phil Foden and Cole Palmer.. they’ve been miles off it.. Morgan Gibbs White not being picked is a travesty.
No other English player in the Premier League has scored more goals
He’s one of two English players nominated for PL players of the season.
That decision flies in the face of meritocracy.
He’s worked so hard to reach this level, he’s carried Forest on his back to premier league survival.
A sad day for one of the nicest, most hard-working players you’ll see in the game.
British politics will reach a new reductio ad absurdum in the Makerfield by election:
Vote Labour to destroy the sitting Labour Prime Minister.
Support Labour PM Starmer but NOT voting Labour.
We are having a by-election not because there’s any demand or need in the national interest but entirely to suit the convenience of the byzantine politics of the ruling party and the political pygmies in whose interest it is run.
We are no longer a serious nation. No wonder the bond markets are squiffy.
Strap in: Follow one of our paratroopers from @16AirAssltBCT jumping in to Tristan da Cunha – one of the world’s most remote communities – to deliver vital medical support 🪂
"I present you the Soviet Ballistic Missile Submarine Red October" - A line from a superb movie. In reality the CIA knew far more about the Soviet TYPHOON class from the mid 1970s than Clancy could have guessed.
Thread on the CIA, Typhoons and spying on the Soviets...
Keith is a three-year-old Anglo-Nubian goat in a field in Devon.
Keith has opened 7 gates, occupied a barn roof for 11 consecutive days, cleared an entire knotweed stand worth £4,000 to remove chemically, eaten Steve's bindweed, been in the churchyard twice, been in the road an estimated 14 times, eaten the water heater instructions, been in Dave's kitchen (standing there, not eating anything, just standing), and filed the structural details of every fence on the farm into a memory that has never once been cleared.
He has done all of this while also being the single most cost-effective conservation intervention on the property.
These are not separate facts. They are the same fact.
Keith does not distinguish between the work and the escape. The escape is work. The work is escape. The fence is a project. The project is completed. The project leads to the next project. The knotweed leads to the churchyard. The churchyard leads to the road. The road leads back to the east ditch. The east ditch was cleared in one season.
There is a man named Steve who has filed twenty-nine formal complaints about Keith.
Steve's bindweed is gone.
Steve does not yet understand that these are the same story.
Dave has £387 in gate receipts, a positive net outcome column on every row since entry seventeen, a churchyard booking for next month, and a corner post with a 4mm flex that Keith has known about since Margot's visit and has not yet acted on.
Not yet.
Keith is not done.
Keith is never done.
Keith is ten thousand years of Zagros Mountain goat compressed into a Devon field, and the fence between him and the rest of the world has always been a negotiating position rather than a boundary.
Be ungovernable. Do the work. Leave the field better than you found it.
The knotweed is at 6%.
Keith is thinking.

UK military chiefs have been asked to find £3.5bn in "efficiencies" and other savings this financial year, even as Sir Keir Starmer says he is readying his armed forces for war, sources have signalled to Sky News. As we revealed on the podcast this morning, heads of the army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and other top brass were due to meet early this week to discuss the funding pressures. There's a £28 billion funding gap in the MOD budget over 4 years.

“The simple step of the courageous individual is to not take part in the lie."
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn would recognize the consistent bullshit coming out of the UK’s Ministry of Defence on defence capability, defence investment and getting ready for war as LIES; and those that peddle them as nothing more than careerist con-artists.
There is no plan, no money and no leadership. Just talk, consultant-crafted sound-bites, catchy video-clips, conference speeches, dressing up for selfies, consistent, careless persecution of veterans and other nonsense. Nothing but LIES.
I do hope this changes soon, and that the right (courageous and honest) leaders are chosen to change all this. But I see very little sign of it….
@pinstripedline Interesting to see the command assessment in this detail...given I was floating around on a 42 at the time having just returned from Granny.
