I built Beehive on this thesis before Parag had the math for it.

I respect this take...it's a discussion that needs more awareness.

When you start to scale, the CEO + CTO relationship is mission-critical. Every VC should be observing that relationship under a microscope. Are they in lockstep? B/c you have to be in lockstep w/ how you manage the technical team, engineering is the most expensive line item on your P&L. As CEO, it is your duty to maximize the ROI of that spend. Your company depends upon it.

Your job is to set the standard & enforce it ruthlessly. Every startup CEO should have detailed productivity metrics around your engineering team (none of this 8 hr. dev day est. BS; push them with deadlines that you set). This is THE team that will make or break you.

Bottom line: You have the power to prevent this from seeping into your culture - remember that. Do not settle. Most startups fail to realize their potential after their seed, and really between their series A/B. Why? The culture isn't fully baked and you, personally, let the standards slip as you try to scale the human capital component of the org. Kudos to @deedydas, it hit the 🎯.
