We don’t need excuses about transformers or weather; we need the lights to stay on. It is time for the government to move beyond explanations and give us the one thing we actually pay for: POWER🔖🙌🏽
We cannot go back to the days of 2012–2016. Ghana has progressed too far for us to be counting the hours of darkness every single day. Whether the cause is technical, financial, or as some suspect political, the result is the same: the people are suffering.
President Mahama recently spoke about "energy reforms" and industrial growth, but how can we build a "24-hour economy" when we can’t even get 24 hours of light in our homes?
But as a consumer, these technical explanations feel like a "dumsor" by another name. While the government talks about "upgrading 12 transformers" to improve reliability, the average Ghanaian is sitting in the dark, watching their food spoil and their businesses stall.
If you ask the Electricity Company of Ghana today, they will tell you about the GH¢240 million transformer upgrade project currently hitting areas like Adenta, Teshie-Nungua and La. They will point to the heavy rainstorms we’ve seen this week as the culprit for structural faults.
Yet, since President Mahama returned to office in 2025, the familiar darkness of “Dumsor” has returned with a vengeance.
Is it a coincidence? Many Ghanaians are starting to wonder if there is something inherent in this administration’s handling of our energy sector
In the heat of April 2026, this isn't just an inconvenience it’s a crisis. I am not a politician, but I am a citizen with a memory. It is hard to ignore the timing. During the years of former President Akufo-Addo, we enjoyed a level of stability where power was effectively 24/7.
Living in Ghana right now feels like stepping back into a past we all fought hard to leave behind. For many of us, ECG has once again become synonymous with frustration rather than "Electricity." We are currently facing a reality where the lights go off at least three times a day
