this post noticeably fails to mention that after he became a free man, Brown was given the opportunity to buy his wife and 3 children out of slavery….. and refused.
the optics were so bad that the abolitionists tried to keep it a secret.
he then went on to marry a white woman.
reminder: boundaries are rules & limits we set for OURSELVES, not others.
the following are NOT boundaries:
“you can’t talk to that person”
“you can’t go out”
“you have to tell me where you’re going”
“you can’t wear that”
“you can’t post that”
those are controlling behaviors+
Dear Black girl in a doctorate program reading and citing articles for research,
It gets better sis!
At the start, I remember when any one article would take me 30-45min to get through the methods alone. This evening over 3hrs, I've annotated over 12 articles. It gets better.
Despite what social media tells you.... Life is much better with a caring partner.
Is being by yourself ok? Sure. But nothing like having another human being vested in your health, well-being, and growth.
My 20s definitely taught me there's no point in doubling back on anything. No friendship, not a relationship, not a Job. Once it has ran it's course, move accordingly. It's your job to take the lesson, add it to character, and move on.
It’s time for me to “go dark” (take a digital detox) from Twitter now. I’m deep into my research and I need to limit my distractions from social media so that I can graduate 😩😩. If you need to reach out to me, text/call/FaceTime me. See ya when I see ya!
Anytime an adult get on their soapbox about beating kids, I always ask them can I slap them every time they do something that I view as a mistake or if it frustrates me. They always look at me crazy and say no. Then I ask well why tf do you think that’s ok to do to a child then?
I’m not finna argue. I’m not having a therapy session with someone I’m on a DATE with
Power dynamic & boundary stepping going crazy out here. I’m not helping you process your trauma over a romantic dinner. What is wrong with y’all?
