How does a "garbage" 3-point shooter miraculously become a good 3-point shooter every time his shot volume increases?
On the one hand, these casuals want to use stats. Then on the other, they ignore the fundamental tenet of stats: that lower volume = more sample size variance, more noise, and higher inaccuracies.
Any statistician worth their salt will tell you that MJ's stats at a higher volume are more reflective of his true skill than those at a lower volume. This is Stats 101.
MJ proved that he was a good 3-point shooter as his shot volume increased. It simply wasn't part of his game during an era that devalued 3s, so he didn't take them. When taking them in volume, he made them, and became even better during the Playoffs and Finals.
The data is unassailable.
From hitting the most iconic shot in Knicks history to bringing the Larry O'Brien trophy back to Madison Square Garden, OG Anunoby is officially New York royalty. 🏆
"I've known Jalen Brunson since I was 16. I've known OG since I was 16…I wasn't rooting for them––but when they won I was happy for them"
–– Jayson Tatum
This wasn't on the broadcast:
During the commercial break before the trophy ceremony, as the Knicks gathered on stage, KAT & Brunson see each other for what looks like the first time since the buzzer:
Ohio State Nickel/SAF Earl Little Jr (6’1” 200) adds to an already excellent secondary. Provides the Buckeyes solid coverage from the slot and the willingness to HIT.
Cleaning up the missed tackles from 2025 will be key, but I’m confident it can be done.
4 things:
1.) His Mental + Physical Dominance - He was the greatest combination of both that the league has ever seen. Imagine the clutchness & football skills of Tom Brady mixed with the freakish athleticism of Lamar Jackson? That was Michael Jordan and having the greatest per-game stats and clutch metrics further substantiate this.
2.) His Stretch of Invincibility - From 1991–1998, if he had a training camp, he won, and HE was always the primary reason. Time and time again, the challengers came. Time and time again, he defended his turf. Two 3-peats will never happen again.
3.) His Carpe Diem - He maximized every one of his chances. 24-0 with home court, 24-0 as the higher seed - if he had the weapons, he won, and that's all you can ask for. There were no underachievements on his resume. If he lost, it was to a superior team.
4.) His Transcendence - He was bigger than the game. In sum, he was a modern-day superhero that can only be understood by those who were there.
Jordan was the greatest combination of individual dominance + team success that the league has ever seen. That's why he's the GOAT 🐐.
Andre Drummond on joining Knicks: "I think this what they need rn. Getting rid of Mitchell Robinson huge loss…I bring in a similar talent & energy…but I'm a vet, been around long time, know what it takes to win. Excited to be in a new role…going back to a place I'm familiar with
Mika Ortiz "What does it take to win?
AD "…Sacrifice…Focus on greater good…which is win a championship––that's what I'm here for
MO "What motivates you?
AD "…Tattooed it on my hand…’Don't Quit’…I don't give up"
Not saying videos of Celtics fans crashing out is more enjoyable content than the Knicks parade/highlight edits…. But I’m not, not saying that also lol 🤣
