@CountryM0j0@ShitpostRock2 left the church a long time ago dipshit. i've got betters reasons to hate them than you do.
you have to be dumber to believe in some "Mormon mafia" conspiracy bullshit
@blujayrx@ShitpostRock2 Look at the original post's replies bro, that's EXACTLY what they're saying. They're saying worse, actually.
You gonna go reply to them and tell them they're wrong?
@blujayrx@ShitpostRock2 no, it's not, because Mormons are not known for being particularly corrupt or particularly malicious in any of these ways, at all.
it's for "holier" rituals for special occasions like getting married.
you can call it "exploitative" for them to expect members engaging in holier rituals they consider to be "closer" to god to be a regular tithe payer. the church will never actually check someone's payments/dues or sift through their bank account to demand money, they just ask members if they paid tithe and take them at their word. and they sure as fuck don't go around advertising or telling people if you're not paying it.
idk would you also say it's exploitative for the government to demand taxes? unethical, perhaps?
not my church anymore, I left a long time ago for all the same reasons your ex-mormon friends did. i'm just not a bitter loser who's deluded themselves into thinking it's all some kind of cult or conspiracy.
you're right, you're not an expert. I am. I know what i'm talking about and you don't.
you don't even know all the good reasons to hate the church, the stuff that makes actual mormons uncomfortable to talk about.
this is all just midwit /r/atheism-tier hatred for normal people.
@blujayrx@ShitpostRock2 So there's not even a single thing about this that's a "Mormon mafia", it's all just people who happen to be Mormon.
In a state where the vast majority of the population is... Mormon.
So it's just a corrupt police department story. So just call it that ffs.
@kitten_beloved you can accurately pre-judge the quality/enjoyment of an event based solely on it's parking infrastructure. events with bad parking instantly make EVERYONE 100% more likely to be annoying assholes about everything.
@W_il_li_W I mean their missionary program is unusual, sure. They are unusually (frequently annoyingly) eager to proselytize, and it's especially funny they think 18 y/os with maybe 2 years of actual church experience are the best people for it.
There's just nothing malicious behind it.
@W_il_li_W I've never known a mormon family to "disown" their kid solely because they don't believe in the church.
I can't say it literally "never" happens, it's just not a normal/typical thing that happens.
Yes. that's also not what the mormon church does.
the only thing that isn't a lie in what you said is that you can't go in a temple if you're not a regular tithe payer. the temple is not a regular church/meeting place, it's a whole separate thing for special events
i've known bishops that have helped their members get jobs & help support their families when they're having financial difficulties though. that's the closest thing to a "mafia/cult" i've seen the church do.
@W_il_li_W the church doesn't publicly shame you, what are you even talking about. they don't tell anybody if you have trouble paying your tithe, and they certainly don't prevent you from going to church.
lots of religious kids/families end up having disputes & troubles because of religion, and i've seen even more for reasons that only tangentially involve religion.
yet i've never known a single mormon family who disowned someone solely because they weren't "part of the cult".
i won't deny that literally *never* happens, and yeah that's fucked up that it does, but it's also not a typical experience.
