NYC’s large buildings continue to show reductions in energy use, according to our latest analysis of 2023 energy and water use data:
⚡ Site energy use dropped among large buildings for the 5th straight year
🌆 92% of large buildings are estimated to comply with 2024 LL97 limits
Can we reuse extensive natural gas pipeline networks to transport hydrogen in the future? A new study says 'Nope.' At least not without "significant retrofits and replacement" and even then, "serious safety and environmental risks remain." Open access:

A great example of why @GovKathyHochul needs to sign the Climate Superfund Act ... so ordinary citizens don't have to shoulder the burden of the willful misdeeds of the oil & gas industry that destroyed our climate.
Don't miss out! Tune in to our online Teach-In on July 31 at noon. Speakers from NYCP, @RegionalPlan, @Harvard_Law, @NYSERDA, & @weact4ej will dive into how a strong cap-and-invest program can help us reach our CLCPA goals. Sign up at https://t.co/NoVDK7ww1D
Proud of our @NYSERDA team for continuing to unlock federal Inflation Reduction Act funding with the submissions of our FULL @ENERGY HER/HEAR applications. More NYers will benefit from energy efficient home upgrades and appliance rebates making energy affordability a priority!
TL;DR - we could have saved NYers billions of dollars every year in the budget we just passed, but we chose not to. Fortunately there's still time to pass NY HEAT and the Climate Change Superfund Act. https://t.co/ixdwk5SzIE
The Assembly chose fossil fuel bottom lines over the needs of their constituents & blocked #NYHEAT, arguably the most transformative energy affordability & climate bill since the CLCPA, from this year's budget.
We're furious & heartbroken.

New Yorkers, did you know you’re paying to subsidize the gas industry & build pipelines across NY?
@GovKathyHochul, @AndreaSCousins & @CarlHeastie can change that by passing the full #NYHEAT Act in the budget & save us money in the process. Let’s do it! https://t.co/iZFpl7XXB7
Whether it’s $200 million/yr that ratepayers are forced to pay to subsidize gas expansion, $150 billion to fix leaky pipes, or the skyrocketing price of gas, the fossil status quo is an albatross around NYs’ necks. NYs deserve a break - and that's just what #NYHEAT will deliver.
Astroturfing & misinformation? Not under @gptnshl's watch 😎
Huge thanks to our stellar Policy & Research Director for telling it like it is (and pointing out what it isn't) during this session's budget hearings. We need #NYHEAT, not climate denial & fossil-fueled front groups!
Thank you @fred_thiele ❤️🔥 It's time for @CarlHeastie to pass #NYHEAT in the Assembly One House budget so that we can move into the cleaner, healthier, and more affordable future we deserve
“This New York Knicks team is a legit title contender this season… This team is deep, they have zero flaws, they have a closer in Jalen Brunson, they are ready right now to compete for a title.” Let’s go @nyknicks!
