At a street carnival near my house I overheard 2 young Black girls say, “Let’s ask her,” and they came over and asked if I had seen their mom. They described her and explained they had stopped to look at something, then turned around and she was gone.
They asked to use my phone, and I handed it over. Shoutout to their mom for teaching them to memorize her phone number! She didn’t answer, so I offered to walk with them while we looked for her and waited for a call back. A few steps later, they spotted her and ran over.
I loved that they felt safe enough to trust me. There were police officers all around, but those little girls saw another Black woman and knew exactly who to ask for help. They just warmed my heart, made my weekend! 🥹
