Data Centres in Ireland should be required to build their own power generation, without subsidy. This is what is happening in America. The current Irish model where it's outsourced to taxpayer subsidised greenwashers who then seek to impose solar deserts and wind turbines on rural Ireland while in some cases doing so in defiance of local planning laws and community wishes, is unacceptable. It will also backfire on those wanting to develop data centres (given the key future infrastructure that they are).
@GaelicRevival@p0nc_ Once followed the route from Basel to Milan with a copy in hand... Makes for a beautiful trip. A few detours to visit Gaelic ghosts at St Gallen (Priscian Glosses) and Saint-Maurice (early St Brigid relic).
Some action shots from yesterday's launch of The Other Clare Volume 50. These are the faces of our society - the people who put in the work to make it all happen.
🧵I'm happy it now has a place in our journal, & I hope that we can someday get the hill's old name on signposts once again - Sliabh Oidhe an Rí, Mountain of the King's Violent Death. It is so much more compelling than Woodcock Hill / Cnoc na gCreabhar!
🧵I worked on the editorial committee under the fantastic tutelage of Rosemary Power for this journal, as well as contributing a few small pieces. We are very proud of it.
"The Other Clare" Volume 50 is now out in the world. Standing at 180 pages, our largest-ever journal is jam-packed with stories from across our county, from early medieval Burren archaeology to Clare's role in the Spanish Civil War.... (1/3)
🧵I learned the remnants of this medieval murder-tale from my mother, who kept its folklore alive. It is thanks to Nike Stam and Celtic Languages and Culture at Utrecht University that I was able to gain the skills to examine it at all, making it the subject of my BA Thesis...
Some placenames from a view in the East Clare Hills (Sliabh Bearnach), in the parish of Sixmilebridge (Droichead Abhann Ó gCearnaigh), overlooking the Shannon Estuary. Near the home house.
And that's a wrap folks 👏. Our heartfelt thanks to Nationwide for showcasing our story, and to those who tuned in to watch. Missed it? Link to the episode is in the comments.
🎬 When Shannon meets Hollywood! ☘️
Today we filmed a feature for Nationwide celebrating the 50th anniversary of our society, looking back at what we have built in our half-century together, & what's yet to come with future generations. Tune in to RTÉ One May 29th, 7PM to watch.
The first of our ‘Talking Landscapes’ oral history walks for 2026 takes place this Sunday 15 February at 2pm, alongside the Headrace Canal in lovely Clonlara. Tickets are free but must be pre-booked here:

Sinn Féin would be good to remember that their party engaged in large-scale disruption of the hunt as part of the 1919 independence campaign, as it was seen as an imperialist and foreign sport. What changed? See the paper here: https://t.co/dWCE6ZIr2T
Shameful. The bill to ban fox hunting in Ireland, proposed by People Before Profit-Solidarity TD Ruth Coppinger, has been defeated in the Dáil.
The bill was defeated by a large majority.
if you have actually seen a video of a fox hunt, to the very, unbelievably bloody/savage ending, you will be stricken with a kind of existential horror; not just that the lone fox is "hounded" until it is exhausted, & not just that it is torn to pieces, but the involvement of the human beings in the savagery is repulsive. seeing fox hunt videos in the UK, it wasn't such a stretch to interpret the "hounding" of the helpless animal as an emblem of British imperialism. so too the Irish were hunted down, slaughtered by British soldiers. so too-- well, fill in the blank.
@BrianGurrin@AengusFinnegan I'm having the same issues - also I'm unable to view search results, the page won't scroll down? But just discovered this resource, the potential looks fantastic and looking forward to diving into it!

@john_mcguirk Bad faith argument and u know it. You're committing the same conflagration that Israel has managed masterfully. Just as being Jewish does not mean being the Israeli state (&criticism of Israel is thus not automatic antisemitism), being Protestant does not mean being Orange Order.
@McKinleyAn Nope. She's losing because she's a poor candidate who represents a disliked political establishment. We've already had two Protestant presidents - most notably our first, Douglas de hÍde
