After a 6 week review we are officially cancelling 83% of the programs at USAID.

The 5200 contracts that are now cancelled spent tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve, (and in some cases even harmed), the core national interests of the United States.

In consultation with Congress, we intend for the remaining 18% of programs we are keeping (approximately 1000) to now be administered more effectively under the State Department.

IonQ advances quantum networks with ultrafast mixed-species gates. Faster, more robust, and scalable, this breakthrough removes a major bottleneck for quantum modular systems.

1/ 🌐 IonQ's strategy focuses on modular quantum systems where Quantum Processing Nodes are linked by photonic connections to enable quantum systems to scale. However, a fundamental bottleneck has held this vision back. The speed and fidelity of entangling gates between qubits of different ion species remain critical challenges.

Without fast and reliable gates, the quantum information exchanged between nodes degrades quickly. This limits the scale and power of quantum networks.

2/ 🐢 Existing approaches to mixed-species gates operate at slow speeds between 10 and 100 kHz. These operations take too long, leading to decoherence and a loss of coherence in photonic-connected qubits that introduce errors. For quantum networks to function efficiently, gates need to operate much faster while maintaining accuracy.

3/ 🚀 Working alongside researchers at the Australian National University, IonQ has developed ultrafast mixed-species quantum gates using pulsed lasers. These gates operate at sub-microsecond speeds, reaching the MHz range. They maintain high fidelity with errors lower than 0.1 percent while also showing resilience against heating, timing noise, and stray fields.

This achievement is more than incremental progress. It is a foundational technology that will drive the next generation of quantum systems.

4/ 🔑 In trapped-ion systems, different ions serve specialized roles. Network qubits connect to photonic systems and operate quickly but are prone to rapid decoherence. Memory qubits are long-lived and ideal for storing quantum information. Fast and high-fidelity gates enable quantum information to transfer quickly and reliably between network and memory qubits. This capability is essential for building scalable quantum networks.

5/ 🎯 Consider a swap gate, which exchanges quantum information between 133Ba as the memory qubit and 138Ba as the network qubit. IonQ's new technology completes this operation in 2.4 microseconds with a decoherence error of only 0.06 percent.

For comparison, older spectroscopic gates take more than 50 microseconds to complete and introduce errors exceeding 1 to 4 percent. IonQ's solution is not just faster. It reduces errors by orders of magnitude.

6/ 📈 IonQ is delivering foundational advancements that make quantum networks both practical and scalable. High-speed and high-fidelity gates solve one of the most pressing challenges for distributed quantum systems. Faster gates allow faster networking. Faster networking enables quantum hardware to scale to levels previously out of reach.

This progress eliminates the technical barriers that have slowed the evolution of modular quantum systems.

7/ 🏆 IonQ's trapped-ion systems already lead the industry in fidelity. With the introduction of MHz-speed mixed-species gates, IonQ is now addressing the next major challenge.
