In 2013, at 31 years old, Mikel Arteta was Arsenal’s vice-captain and midfield leader.
Born on March 26, 1982, he had joined Arsenal from Everton in late August 2011 for around £10m.
He left the pitch in 2016, sharpened his craft as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, and returned to Arsenal in 2019 tasked with bringing the club back among Football’s elite.
