First of all, join union. I can not overemphasise the importance of being a part of union.

Attend social gatherings with colleagues as a team I.e team bonding activities

Observe and learn office politics

Identify a mentor and clinch them

Never be afraid to learn and own up to your mistakes, you can not have experience without mistake

Nobody is your friend at work

Your accent, skin colour and maybe educational qualifications is already making you lose by 2-0
