Goodbye one of the best JBLs of 2024, and one of the best JBLs so far - #IHearTheSunspot. We need more shows like this.
I’d like to write my own short review about this drama, which has become one of my most favorite JBLs since day 1. Please tell me what you think too if you agree or disagree.☺️
First, there are so many strong points of this drama.
- The story is so beautiful and meaningful. As the thumbnails suggest, it’s about the story of how Kohei and Taichi changed after meeting each other, with disability representation and lessons about empathy. This is the kind of story I would like to see more of because of its depth and values.
- Compared to the movie back in 2017, this drama has an advantage of a longer run time so it can depict their story in more detail and thus, we got to see more nuances in the writing and acting that the movie could not somehow fully elaborate due to time constraint.
- The first half of the drama was really a hit. Every thing was done so right: from writing, directing and character depiction. It’s understandable that the interactions boomed just after one ep and kept escalating. It’s was just too good.
- Another big plus of this drama is the top-notch acting and chemistry of Motoki and Tora. I can feel the characters really yearn for each other, even without dialogues. Especially Motoki, his eye acting and yearning facial expression squeezed my heart every time, and when he smiles, I feel like the scene looks even brighter.
- Drama color is pretty and every screenshot looks so aesthetically pleasing. OP is so lovely and ED is so emotional. Both of the songs make me strongly feel the vibe of the drama whenever they are played.

However, just some tiny tweeny room for improvements that would make it even more perfect in my opinion.
- Although the second half also has its own charms in some eps, I enjoyed the first half more than the second half. It’s not bc of the angst of the second half ofc, I really didn’t mind angst, but bc I feel something lost along the way. There’s something off with character writing and directing from ep 7 onwards. It could be because the directors got changed so it alters the vibe a little or could be other reasons that I’m not aware of.
- And I guess most of us feel a little unsatisfied with the last ep as we expect to see more affection from them. Ep 11 was so peak that I feel like they really yearn for each other and it hurts so bad to see them part way but ep 12 came out a little unsatisfying. The confession seems kinda not it and a hug is really not enough, let alone the camera angle of the hug. Also because of the time constraint, we couldn’t see much of their dating era, which is also one common thing in JBLs.
- This is not really a big deal but I also think the writer overcooked the character Maya a little bit. I heard Maya in the manga was more chilled. She got too much hate in the drama and this is so sad.

Overall, the drama is too good to exist and I really need a season 2 for the continuation of their story some time in the near future. I would recommend this drama to everyone because of how beautiful it is.
