Long explanation:

The Saudi Arabian government started a tournament circuit series, EWC, which had been competing with Evo and publisher championships as the “ultimate” championship a player could win.

EWC had millions of dollars in prizes, Evo had prestige and legacy, publisher championships have prestige from their official nature.

The Saudi government then bought Evo’s owning company and expanded to Evo to several tournaments per year (which ppl say dilutes the prestige).

Evo announced that one of the publisher championships (Tekken World Tour), previously independently hosted, will now be a side event at the new Evo Singapore.

And with this announcement, Evo is also integrating local events into this ecosystem they’re building.

Players who have been avoiding supporting the government sponsored gaming have been avoiding Evo and EWC affiliated events and mostly playing at local tournaments.

Not much room for them anymore.

On September 3, 2025, Dr. Gideon Polya and Professor Richard Hil calculated the total death toll for Gaza since October 7.

My fingers are shaking as I’m writing this.

Based on all the data collected, the death toll in Gaza is at least 680,000.

But even worse, 380,000 are infants under five years of age, 99,000 children five or older, 63,000 women and 138,000 men.
