I wrote about the traveler's delusions, drawing on the insights of Fernando Pessoa, Walker Percy, & others; & I offer my own solution to the puzzle of why travel is endowed with mystical transformative powers, even by those it evidently fails to transform.

A Pulitzer prize winner, a journalist who chronicled the reality of our times through his powerful lens & above all an Indian citizen who died in an attack by the Taliban. Not one word of condolence from @MEAIndia, @DrSJaishankar or @narendramodi so far.
Extremely petty.
We did our job as journalists. @DelhiPolice Commissioner Mr Amulya Patnaik you should, at least now, do yours. Without fear or favour. Show some spine. Goodnight. See you all tomorrow. Jai Hind.
Thank you @deepikapadukone for standing up for students and youth against fascist bullies.
The times they are a changing!
Khan uncles, agar zameer zinda hai, to ab to kuch boldo @iamsrk, @aamir_khan, @BeingSalmanKhan
You bloody idiots, stop condemning online and send in help to save our students from the goons in there. You are the ruling party, show some goddamn character.
We strongly condemn the violence on JNU campus. This is a desperate attempt by forces of anarchy, who are determined to use students as cannon fodder, create unrest to shore up their shrinking political footprint. Universities should remain places of learning and education.
JNU Inder attack by alleged ABVP terrorists ! Despite @DelhiPolice presence on campus!!!! Stop this terror and rampage ! Watch this video received from a student! WHAT IS DELHI POLICE DOING????? Is this a govt. sanctioned attack?????
This is unbelievable. These are tactics from Germany in the 1930s, not India in 2020. I implore the authorities to stop this. They are destroying Indian democracy as well as what remains of our nation's image in the democratic world. #StopJNUAssaultsNow!
Just heard from a journalist who is inside JNU that not a single Delhi police official is inside JNU, even as the masked ABVP mob goes on a rampage. The Delhi Police is standing outside the JNU gate.
