Is Cristiano Ronaldo past his best? yes.
Did he have a poor game against DR Congo? Also yes.
Do both things have to be related and become a three-day long topic? Nope!
Portugal at the moment do not have a centre forward option that’s clearly better.
And also no, I do not think Cristiano Ronaldo is being intentionally sabotaged by his teammates or that he is in fact intentionally hurting the team as all the narratives have suggested.
He just had a poor game.
Congo defended well, Portugal struggled to create, it happens!
Whatever Joao Neves said, that’s the mentality Portugal players should take into their games.
He can’t be treated as a special player, because he’s not. He’s a good goalscorer still, but has lost a lot of other attributes to carry a team and be treated specially.
His teammates (and coach ffs) have to play with him as they would any average player, and not defer to him as they would a special player.
That’s the only way Portugal stand a chance.
Unrelated but: They love Cristiano Ronaldo so much and when they play against him they put in their all. It’s like a National Audition! Thats the difference between teams that play against Ronaldo and Messi.
- When they play against Ronaldo.. it’s like war to them because he’s their mentor and they try to give their all. They want to pass the audition. Do you know what it means to play with the same person you look up to?!. You will try to prove a Point.
- When they play against Messi. They have already given up from the first whistle.
Imagined if all these South African players played against Portugal during this World Cup.. they will work Harder than the id!ots back home shouting “Go Bek to your country”.
I think that statement has been taken out of context.
There’s no way Joao Neves will intentionally denigrate Ronaldo. Meaning gets lost in communication, especially when it’s a statement that’s open to interpretation.
How I interpret it is that he’s saying, “we are in this together”. Ronaldo is great but he won’t do it alone. He’s one of us, and we are going to do it as a team. He’s just another player in that team and that responsibility isn’t on Ronaldo alone.
That’s how I see it.

I just read Diomandes letter to his sister. There is so much pain in that. People often ask what is your why of doing what you do…you have Diomandes. Heartbreaking. You will go on and do great things, I have no doubt.
Adelabu’s sister and kids kidnapped in Oyo state have been rescued.
The Army general’s wife has been rescued.
Please when are they rescuing the school children? Is the police only working for the elite?
After Oriire incidents there’s been countless incidents of insurgents across the country, there’s a reason only Ọyọ state’s issue remains the front burner, because here we are truly committed to the return of the abductees, we won’t move on, we must #RescueOriire
