I've spent the last three years researching my PhD on Thomas Bewick's 'A History of British Birds' so every day is #NationalBirdDay for me. Here's one of my favourite locals, the magpie. Collective nouns: a gulp, a tittering or a mischief.
Roy @rmcfarlane63 and I have been enthusiastically selecting collections together for the @PoetryBookSoc over the past two years, so we'll be raising a glass to all the fantastic books we've read, selected and reviewed.
And, of course, to us - it's been a blast!
Rare reading from my first collection, Outlandish (@BloodaxeBooks), tomorrow at Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts alongside @rmcfarlane63, plus a conversation with Tara Bergin. Preti Taneja and Alice Kate Mullen from @PoetryBookSoc will introduce the evening.
Jo Clement (@_dodo) is standing in for Romalyn Ante at the @PoetryBookSoc showcase event in Newcastle @NCLA_tweets tomorrow, 21 Nov, 7pm. She'll be reading from her debut collection #Outlandish and will be in conversation with Tara Bergin & @rmcfarlane63.

Some mics about to be dropped in Rotherham!
Love Music Hate Racism @lmhrnational in Rotherham on Friday with the ever awesome Roy McFarlane, with whom I've been selecting collections for the @PoetryBookSoc these past two years.

Monday morning is all about these lines from Victoria Chang's The Trees Witness Everything:
There is a bird and a stone
in your body. Your job is not
to kill the bird with the stone.

“Singing give peace a chance”
- Jackie Kay reads her blazing, beautiful poems of community, love, family and a life in protest from her PBS Recommendation MAY DAY >
@JackieKayPoet@durhambookfest
Can't believe my first ever event chairing was An Evening with THE @JackieKayPoet! Still pinching myself.
Thanks for such a wonderful night with two gorgeous and enormously talented poets, @durhambookfest. You put together a lush powerhouse! My heart feels ten times fuller.
@JackieKayPoet@durhambookfest@NewWritingNorth@PoetryBookSoc Oh no! I hope you get a seat, Jackie. Or at least a window until you do. Such a long journey but beautiful views on the way. The cathedral is incredible isn't it? I'm not religious, but it's worth catching an evensong. All that silent grandeur fills up quick with song x
My Durham Book Festival kicked off with a lyrical, moving, life-affirming event with @JackieKayPoet last night. And thank you to @_dodo for brilliant hosting. #DBF24
@kimmoorepoet @shirintsh@ForwardPrizes Oh wow, thanks Kim, that's so lovely! I had a million and one things I wanted to say and ask you in the escape room that is the after party - we've gotta get a cuppa sometime.
LOVE the range of voices on the @ForwardPrizes Best Single Poem shortlist this year. Vasiliki, Derek, Lisa, Tife & Cindy - amazing poems.
Reading Cindy's winning poem was an uneasy honour. I know domestic abuse too well and felt every damn word. Read it: https://t.co/upCXmL8q03
Inspired by @DrJaninaRamirez's recent photos from Rouen, here's a poem I wrote about one of my icons, Joan of Arc, plus a favourite rendering of her face. Poem title translates to 'the stake'.
Over the moon to see @marjorielotfi's seriously accomplished debut 'The Wrong Person to Ask' scoop Best First Collection @ForwardPrizes. @rmcfarlane63 and I chose it as the @PoetryBookSoc Winter 2023 Special Commendation. Read a poem here:

We're absolutely thrilled that @marjorielotfi has won the @ForwardPrizes Felix Dennis Prize for Best First Collection for her debut The Wrong Person to Ask. Many congratulations Marjorie!
