I have followed Burale for years. Burale has always admitted his mistakes. He went into debt. He attended strip clubs. He loved women. He has always regretted his past. He decided to change and is now an advisor basing his lessons on his personal experiences.

I used to buy those cheap sunglasses from the roadside all the time and always thought, "What's the point of buying expensive ones? I'm going to loose them anyway." Then one day, I gathered the courage and bought an expensive sunglasses. And guess what? I still have them. I've taken care of them ever since.
That's when I realized those cheap sunglasses weren't getting lost because they were cheap? They were getting lost because I didn't value them enough to care. It's hard to accept, but sometimes in someone else's story, you are that cheap pair of sunglasses.

Before We Judge Nairobi Birdman, Remember Where He Came From

Before the world knew Nairobi Birdman, he was living on the streets. I once saw him near Kencom, sitting quietly with his birds while thousands of people walked past without a glance.

Few people believed back then that social media could change a life. Yet that same young man has built a name for himself. He now has a roof over his head, pays his bills, and has turned what many called a strange hobby into a real source of income.

Kenya has wildlife conservation laws, and they must be respected. If authorities find that some of his birds cannot legally be kept in private hands, the law should take its course. But enforcement alone is not enough.

We must ask ourselves: after taking away his livelihood, what comes next?

Why do we always wait for someone to succeed before we look for reasons to bring them down? Why don't we focus on creating opportunities instead?

Nairobi Birdman has shown real knowledge, patience, and love for birds. Why not put that to good use? He could be offered training, helped to get the right permits, or considered for roles in wildlife education or conservation outreach. Agencies like the Kenya Wildlife Service or the Kenya Forest Service could explore whether he qualifies for any of their programmes.

Governments across the world invest in people with unique talents because guided talent becomes an asset to society.

This is a young man we have all watched rise from nothing. His story speaks of resilience, creativity, and survival. If we strip away his income without offering any path forward, we risk pushing him right back to the streets.

The role of government is not only to enforce the law. It is also to open doors.

Let us protect our wildlife. But let us also protect the dreams of young Kenyans who are building honest lives from very little.
