Owen Murphy - RHP / Atlanta Braves

Scouting Report:
Murphy, a 2022 first-round pick out of high school, has a smooth, repeatable delivery that allows him to command the strike zone effectively. Before his UCL injury in 2023, he showed elite strikeout ability (38.7 K%) over 41 innings in High-A, posting a dominant 1.54 ERA.

His fastball sits in the low 90s (topping at 95 mph) with natural rise, making it an ideal pitch up in the zone. His breaking ball mix is impressive, featuring a tight 81-85 mph slider and a big-breaking, Kershaw-like curveball in the 70s that serves as his go-to out pitch. The curveball is his best weapon, generating swings and misses consistently.

The key to Murphy's development is velocity and a changeup. If he can add a few ticks to his fastball and slider, his arsenal could play even better at higher levels. Additionally, lefties posted a .750 OPS against him compared to .280 vs. righties, highlighting the need for a changeup to keep them off balance and improve his viability as a big-league starter.

Nacho Alvarez Jr. - 3B / Atlanta Braves

Scouting Report:
Alvarez is a high-contact hitter with plus plate discipline, showing elite bat-to-ball skills reminiscent of Luis Arraez. He controls the strike zone well, rarely expanding, and has a gap-to-gap approach that should translate to plenty of doubles. While his raw power is below average, he has a compact, line-drive swing with sneaky pull-side power that could allow for 10-15 HRs annually.

Defensively, Álvarez is a sure-handed third baseman with above-average defensive instincts. His slow first step, limits his lateral range, but he compensates with clean footwork and a strong, accurate arm that allows him to make throws from deep in the hole. He projects as an above-average defender at 3B with the arm strength to handle tougher plays.

Astros owner Jim Crane has not gone beyond six years in his offers to players, and it's pretty clear that if Kyle Tucker stays healthy, he is going to be offered big money/big years as a free agent next fall. So Houston has a choice similar to Boston's in the offseason after 2019 with Mookie: trade him for value this winter or next July, or, watch him walk away.
