The biggest mistake in electoral analysis is the assumption that everyone else knows what you know. In a country like India which simultaneously lives in multiple centuries, voters are confined to their own bubbles which are hugely asymmetrical in terms of information.

Blaming certain smaller parties for "splitting secular votes" is rather useless. All parties have equal right to contest elections and it is the voters who are making the choice.

Introspect your politics. Inquire why people found you unfavourable instead of pointing fingers.
