@Gp2Joey Alesi and Lehto seems to struggle to adjust to the life at their new teams, Brack and Schuey has been way quikcer so far. Hopefully Lehto can find the pace he had at Sauber
Jordan and Sauber have had solid enough starts
Simtek seems closer than in 95 but so far not close enough
@Gp2Joey Looks like 1996 will be Benetton vs Williams round 2. Biggest question for McLaren seems to be wheter the pace is across different tracks or not.
Brabham and Ferrari are in and thereabouts, Wins are possible but i doubt more
Andretti-Lotus' the dark horses for magic this year.
@Gp2Joey Burt is lucky to walk away from that one, his imola pre-season crash with Brbaham from a few seasons ago left him heavily injured - glad he's okay
@Gp2Joey Big shout again to Andretti-Lotus, they seem to have taken a massive step and is gelling perfectly with the Ford Ztec, could very well be a dark horse for podiums or even a win or 2 this season if they keep it up
π¬π§ Lotus 102C Isuzu V12 Test
In 1991, Team Lotus secretly tested an experimental V12 Formula One engine developed by Isuzu. This project, which remains a fascinating "what-if" in motorsport history, centered on the Isuzu P799WE engine.Β
The Engine (P799WE):
A 75-degree, naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V12 designed by a small, four-person team at Isuzu. It was impressively powerful, producing between 640 and 765 bhp depending on the stage of development, which was competitive with the top engines of the era.Β
The Chassis (Lotus 102C):
To test the engine, Lotus modified its 102B chassis to accommodate the V12, renaming the resulting car the Lotus 102C.Β
The Test:
The car underwent system checks at the Hethel test track in late July and early August 1991. The primary on-track evaluation took place at Silverstone in early August 1991, with drivers Johnny Herbert and Mika HΓ€kkinen conducting the tests.Β
Performance:
During the Silverstone test, the car was reportedly around six seconds off the pace of Ayrton Sennaβs McLaren-Honda.
Several factors contributed to this: the engine lacked an alternator (requiring heavy onboard batteries), the chassis was not optimized for the new V12, and the car was not running on specialized racing fuel or tires.Β
Reliability: Despite the gap in lap times, the engine proved remarkably reliable during testing and was considered easy to work with by the Lotus mechanics.
Economic Collapse:
The project coincided with the collapse of the Japanese asset price bubble. This economic instability, combined with Isuzu witnessing the struggles of other Japanese manufacturers (like Yamaha and Subaru) in F1, led them to cancel their entry into the sport.Β
Isuzu eventually displayed the P799WE engine in a concept vehicle called the Isuzu Como F1, a radical mid-engine pickup truck unveiled at the 1991 Tokyo Motor Show. While the F1 program never materialized, the P799WE remains a symbol of Isuzu's ambitious engineering capabilities during that era. Today, one of the few surviving examples of the engine is kept at the Tamiya headquarters and the Isuzu Plaza museum.

@Gp2Joey a show car in the garage has been revealed with the final design, the race chassis reportedly had some late updates which meant the painting of the car wasn't completed in time!
@Gp2Joey@autosport Rumor is the chassis designers might have had too much to drink whilst sitting in armchairs whilst completing the design...
Suspect a bad car will make the Schumacher-Alesi relationship rather complicated as well...
@Gp2Joey Promising drivers for Lola, might have helped with some experience but given that they last built a chassis for Brabham in 1993 they arent completely walking into the unknown.
This does however Brabham will be looking for a new reserve driver..
McLaren has Gavin on their books.
@Gp2Joey@SimtekF15277 Wow, these are massive signings!! Great for them.
95 was a struggle but they proved towards the end of the year that they could show progress and weren't stuck in a death spiral. The Anusol money should help them out greatly.
Assume Sospiri stays on as reserve @SimtekF15277?
@Gp2Joey@IndyCar happy for young Fisico, this does however mean that only the Simtek, Lola & Forti seats remain for Verstappen and Wendlinger unless they can stomach being a test driver.
de Ferran has reportedly signed an IndyCar contract...
I can see one of each at Simtek and Lola.
@Gp2Joey Both him and Wendliger were reportedly in talks with @SimtekF15277, but i had doubts they could afford both of them.
Simtek should really throw everything at landing Wendlinger if they can't get Verstappen

SIMTEK IN TALKS FOR 1996 DRIVER LINE UP
Today we been in discussions with both Karl Wendlinger and Jos Verstappen to drive for us in 1996. With the influx Anusol given us they wanna go big. If we get them GT and VS be kept on as reserve and test drivers.
@PrixPacific Wonderful for him, he's done well in testing and F3000 and having spent 2 years with the team now he knows Pacific well. Jupiler along with JPI should also sure up Pacific now that HYPE has left. Excited to see what he can do!
I wonder who will take up testing duties...
@Gp2Joey Concellation prize to Benetton is that they atleast won the contructors championship. Good setup for 96.
Brabham double points (!) should also mean that they secured 5th in the championship, over McLaren.
Yet another points finish for BrΓ€ck! Also a good drive from Unser Jr!
@Gp2Joey Man, Senna got lucky after that spin... Congratulations to him!
Poor luck for Mansell, did everything he could, just wasn't meant to be. I'm sure he'll be properly motivated to get that second title in 1996!
@Gp2Joey Brack had a very unlucky first half of the season but the second half has been stellar, especially for a rookie!
This should be a very strong line-up for Tyrrell for 1996!
