text-to-cad is now on the official codex plugin directory!
here's a fun demo of me using it to design a 3D printed iphone duo stand in about 10 minutes

The @excalidraw mcp is sick.
Have it live draw explanations (with pencil sounds and all) then pop open to the app and make your own changes.
Learning with ai is so fun. (Also, don't stop learning, your brain is too valuable)
Your ad blocker could fit behind your router.
meet ESP32-C3 AdBlock, an open-source DIY DNS ad blocker by ZedAxis, built around a roughly $2 ESP32-C3 Super Mini board
inside: 400 KB of RAM, 4 MB of flash, built-in Wi-Fi and a USB adapter, tucked into a printed case
no subscription
no browser extension
no separate power brick
plug it into your router’s USB port for power, connect over Wi-Fi and set it as your DNS server to block listed ad and tracker domains.
compact 40-bit hashes save RAM. a web dashboard lets you check blocked requests and add domains,
while open-source code and case files let you build your own.

We are releasing → https://t.co/9bfbbdJZip today: AI driven embeddable CAD. If you ever enjoyed my OSS projects (zustand, react-spring, r3f, pmndrs), these all came out of CC. 🍻
A small 🇨🇭 team has been working on CAD for so many years, release seemed always out of reach. This is a huge milestone for us and i'd appreciate a RT. 🙏
Nick Nethercote's September compiler performance column is out and buried at the end is the most important line. 🦀
First, the headline numbers. Two months of work, 629 benchmarks measured:
→ Mean wall-time reduction: 4.57%
→ 555 benchmarks improved, 74 regressed
→ Multiple benchmarks saw double-digit reductions
The technical term, in his own words: "a sea of green."
Standout wins:
PGO enabled for Clippy : up to 18% wall-time improvement on some benchmarks.
LLVM 23 upgrade : 1.2% mean wall-time reduction across all benchmarks from a single PR. Small number, huge impact at that scale.
Cranelift-codegen's enormous function. One function, 18,000+ basic blocks. Changing the CFG traversal algorithm dropped calls to apply_effects_in_block from 1.5 million to 90,000. Result: ~30% wall-time reduction for check builds of that crate.
New contributor xmakro had a remarkable run: specialization graph optimization (-1.58% mean cycle count), incremental data loading (-6% best case), allocation reductions in obligations processing, and static dispatch replacing dynamic in trait solver selection.
Polonius Alpha and the new trait solver both landed on nightly this period. Both caused some regressions that are being actively fixed. Jack Huey's liveness optimizations already recovered 3-5% on serde.
And the buried lede: Nick starts working at Hexcat tomorrow, specifically hired to work on compiler performance optimizations full time.

Packed week for Rust. Rustler Weekly is out. 🦀
📊 CSV parsing at 180 GB/s : a VLDB 2026 paper from TUM Munich. 22x faster than DuckDB, 256x faster than single-threaded Rust CSV. Speculative parallel parsing, end-to-end SIMD, zero inter-thread communication.
🔮 fearless_simd v1.0 incoming : SIMD in Rust without writing unsafe. Hardware-width vectors, multiversioning built in, three-year security commitment planned.
🔬 State of SIMD in Rust : the most balanced survey available. Five libraries mapped out. The most actionable detail: put #[multiversion] on loops, use #[inline(always)] for tiny functions.
🚂 Topcoat 0.9 : Rails-style web apps in Rust from the creator of Tokio. Server components, WebSocket push, signal-based reactivity. No API layer, no client state management.
💡 Enum variants as their own types : a short post that will live rent-free in your head. Prove at compile time what kind of value you have. No runtime check, no comment.
🔑 hashify : perfect-hash lookups as a proc macro. 4x faster than phf for tiny maps, 40% faster for large maps. Zero heap allocation.
💼 New Rust jobs added daily : https://t.co/7wifSiZyo1
🗓️ Events : Manchester, Berlin, Munich and more. October kicking off strong.

NEW: Durable Functions in PostgreSQL 🤯
pg_durable is a PostgreSQL extension. The workflow state, queue, retries, and recovery live in Postgres, and it uses Postgres durability / HA / backups / recovery.
