On September 15, 2001, Balbir Singh Sodhi was planting flowers outside his Arizona gas station when Frank Roque pulled up and fatally shot him. Roque wanted revenge for 9/11 and mistook Sodhi, a Sikh man, for a Muslim because of his turban.
Sodhi became the first person killed in a post-9/11 retaliatory hate crime, marking the beginning of a devastating wave of violence against Muslims, Sikhs, Arabs, South Asians, and other brown Americans.
Considering the BBC has cancelled #dragraceuk today I want to remind the world of this clip and why a show like this was so vital to so many queer individuals who found home in the show. Let’s hope and dream it’ll reach linear tv again.
What is going on @BBCNews Angela Raynor paid the wrong stamp duty and you were on her like a dog with bone. Farage is on film accepting massive illegal overseas payments and you look the other way. WHY am I paying a licence fee for this rubbish?
Finding out Dominique Pelicot wasn’t a one-off weirdo but actually belonged to a global violent fetish community that is more common than we ever knew…
Ah, so sadly we have our own Pelicot case. Where’s the outrage? 13 men drugged and raped a woman. Her husband abused her with other men for 20 years. No comment?
A husband accused of drugging and sexually abusing his wife for more than two decades will go on trial in Manchester, England, alongside a dozen other men accused of taking part in or helping to facilitate the abuse. https://t.co/YpBFesWBML
I think what was so compelling about Scandoval, and also terrifying for the cast, is that it was a complete annihilation of the wall between the viewer and the show. Everyone was on the chopping block career wise because the audience had taken control of the narrative. The stakes might seem low, many people of course could care less about Vanderpump rules, but they’d been in a perfectly preserved snow globe they thought was impenetrable. They began to let the public in more and more as they became influencers on social media then suddenly they lost control. The surveillance they signed up for no longer felt like a choice. Vanderpump, among many other things, is a great way to track the surveillance state we not only acquiesced to but built around ourselves. #vpr
I really can’t overstate the degree to which I was blackpilled by seeing Serena Williams doing those GLP-1 commercials. Truly do not know how we will ever come back from that. One of the greatest athletes of all time hawking weight loss pills. Absolute abjection
