In the world of Canadian 🇨🇦 Express Entry, the OND + HND combination is tactically "better" than a standalone BSc because of how the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) awards points for education.

Strange, right? Let me break it down for you.

📍The "Two or More" Rule: IRCC 🇨🇦 awards more points to candidates with multiple credentials, provided at least one of them was for a program of 3 years or longer.

▪︎ In many ECA evaluations (like WES), an HND is evaluated as a 3-year diploma. Adding the OND on top of that allows you to claim the "Two or more certificates" category.

▪︎ Skill Transferability: This is where the real gap appears. If you have a high English test score (CLB 9 or higher), having "Two or more credentials" gives you 50 bonus points in the Skill Transferability section, whereas a single BSc only gives you 25 points.

▪︎ WES Evaluation: For Nigerian 🇳🇬 applicants specifically, World Education Services (WES) typically evaluates an HND as a "Three-year diploma" and an OND as a "Two-year diploma." When evaluated together, they qualify you for the higher points tier.

▪︎ Note: To claim these points, you must have both the OND and HND evaluated by an approved body like WES. If you only evaluate the HND, you will only receive points for a single 3-year diploma, which is the same as a BSc.

📍Summary:
▪︎ If you are looking to maximise your score, the OND + HND route gives you a significant edge (potentially +30 to +33 points total when including bonuses) over a single Bachelor's degree.

If you ask me, this is one of the very few times where an OND/HND holder has an edge over a BSc holder in life.
