When I speak about the need to end this war, I always focus first and foremost on the immense human cost being paid for military actions and autocratic brutality. However, some deliberately reduce my calls for peace to nothing more than territorial concessions. Let me be clear: I have no influence over any territorial decisions, nor am I the president of the country empowered to make them. Any attempt to twist my words into something else is a cheap and primitive provocation.
That said, I firmly maintain that this war is already causing irreversible changes within the state and the nation. Most tragically, we are losing our population — people we may never be able to replace. Of the roughly 25 million Ukrainians still remaining in the country, 12 million are pensioners. Last year, Ukraine recorded three times more deaths than births. This war is literally destroying the Ukrainian nation.

For your information: There is a criminal investigation
about money laundering. Besides a land grab, there is also tax evasion and money laundering at stake. So the land is "given" free of charge, and the so-called "investment" is in reality criminal money. After construction it is of course suddenly clean money and all participants in this conspiracy are then officially richer again.
⛔️BREAKING: The EU Is Openly Trying to Block Donald Trump's Son-in-Law Project in Albania!
The European Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen, is pressuring Albania to halt the luxury resort project linked to Jared Kushner over environmental concerns.
The EU claims the €4 billion development could jeopardize Albania’s path toward EU membership, raising tensions over a major U.S.-backed investment.
Chancellor Merz with 15% approval and 77% disapproval. Somehow Germans are not happy with his authoritarianism, ignoring national interests, deindustrialisation, mass immigration, support for genocide, war with Russia, criminalising the opposition, and limiting free speech.

Worth mentioning that this looks legally questionable and could lead to a major escalation, assuming Kallas is being serious.
Inside EU waters or ports, the EU has room to inspect vessels and enforce its own sanctions, but boarding foreign tankers in international waters solely because they are suspected of carrying Russian oil is a very different matter. By the same token, Russia has no right to pull over Western ships beyond its own naval territory.
EU sanctions aren't UN sanctions and they don't give EU warships a general right to stop foreign-flagged vessels on the high seas. So unless the vessel is falsely flagged or stateless, it's potentially going to lead to flash points.
Natalie Jaresko, a US-born American citizen working for the US State Department, including at the US embassy in Kiev, received Ukrainian citizenship following the NATO-backed coup in 2014 and immediately became the Finance Minister of Ukraine.
Salome Zourabichvili is a French citizen who served as the French ambassador to Georgia. Following the NATO-backed "Rose Revolution", Zourabichvili was granted Georgian citizenship (while still serving as the French ambassador to Georgia). Shortly thereafter, she left the job of France's ambassador to Georgia and took the job as Georgia's Foreign Minister. Later, she took the position of President of Georgia, and has since been a key advocate for allowing Georgia's civil society to be administered by Western "NGOs" financed by Western governments and cooperating with Western intelligence agencies. After holding the presidency, she went to work for the McCain Institute, where she advocates for more intervention, while in Georgia, the current political leadership warns about the West seeking to use these NGOs to topple their democratically elected government to open up another front against Russia.
The imperialist design is always celebrated as democracy, and the purge of the opposition is always celebrated in the West as fighting Russian interference. We cannot even have discussions in the West about the extent to which this supports or undermines our security - as all criticism is purged as "Kremlin talking points". In my opinion, Europe is committing suicide.
If anything, it proves the complete and utter failure of Israel's strategy.
Breaking news: if your adversary gets stronger and more confident as the war goes on - you ain't winning.
🚨🇪🇺🇦🇲 Macron: Russian interference in Armenia’s elections is MASSIVE.
If it favors Russia, EU may reject the result.
Translation: "If it's pro-EU, it's democracy. If it's pro-Russia, it's foreign interference."
Extraordinary chart: Chinese AI models have now completely overtaken their US competitors on OpenRouter, the largest API aggregator out there for AI models.
Interestingly it's really a 2026 story: beforehand US models were truly dominant.
This is mainly due to the release of models like Kimi K2.5 (released in Jan 26), MiniMax M2.5 (Feb 26), and, of course, DeepSeek V4 (released in April).
Like I wrote after the release of DeepSeek V4, for most tasks, favoring Chinese AI models is literally a no-brainer in almost all respects:
- At least 10 times cheaper than US models
- At least 90% as good for most tasks (programming, copywriting, etc.)
- Your data and privacy are MORE secure as it's open source and you can (and should) use it in a way where no-one sees your data, like self-hosting or via Zero Data Retention (ZDR) providers.
Honestly it's so freaking obvious that at this stage there are two categories of AI users: those who already use Chinese models, and those who will.

Good take by @adam_tooze in the FT.
I think a good analogy to use is this: imagine Saudi Arabia offered to sell their oil wells at 80% off, and you could somehow ship them home. You'd call any leader who refused that deal a complete fool.
Well that's pretty much what China is doing with solar panels.
That's what people fail to understand: there's such intense competition and so much supply in China - the so-called "involution" phenomenon - that it's YOU, as a customer, who's getting subsidized when you buy solar panels. This is literally China paying your energy bill.
And it's like oil wells because, once it's installed, there's no dependency. You buy it once, and for three decades (the average lifespan of a solar panel) you're extracting energy from your own sun, just like an oil well extracts from your own ground. It's one of the most sovereign energy asset you can buy.
The rational response when you see this is to buy as many as you can, as fast as you can. All the more when you're Europe and you have massive energy supply problems (and no solar industry of your own to protect).
But no, we scream "overcapacity" and put up tariffs. We're so deep into geopolitical brainworms that we can't recognize the best deal in the history of energy.
