Both F1s (docs) and PAs now have GMC licences.
PA can see undifferentiated patients in GP/A&E and do clinics - all of which is too dangerous/unsafe for the doctor to do until years of training. Plus PA is paid 15k more.
Doctors are just calling for some level of equality.
🧵/ The government doesn’t want you to know it, but it is currently conducting a massive, un-evidenced, cost-cutting experiment in the NHS, replacing doctors with so-called physician associates. 1/n

Here’s the deal: you pay an extra £10 in tax, and Rishi Sunak’s government expects you to be happy with the £2 they give you back.
A cynical giveaway from a weak and out of touch Tory government.
It’s time for change, with Labour.
Junior doctors didn’t waste billions of taxpayers’ money on dodgy contracts.
Junior doctors didn’t sell off our health service.
Junior doctors didn’t cause record-high waiting lists.
The Tories created this crisis. Solidarity with junior doctors striking to save our NHS.
This idiot is our health secretary. She thinks 'junior doctors' are 'doctors in training'. The reality is that they are all hospital doctors who are not consultants - in other words, the majority of all doctors, and many of them have considerable experience. Is she being deliberately insulting, or is she just gratuitously rude?
'If they can turn you against doctors, they can turn you against absolutely anybody.'
@mrjamesob highlights how the right-wing media's 'attempted public pillory' of junior doctors indicates a wider problem.
So Pret baristas will now be earning up to £14.10 an hour.
New NHS doctors - after their 5-year medical degree, whopping £80,000 of student debt, & life & death responsibilities - get paid £14.13 an hour.
And the government wonders why they're striking?

Junior doctors devote their lives to the needs of others.
They do not take strike action lightly. They do it because the future of our NHS is at stake.
I will be proud to join them on the picket line.
The NHS desperately needs more staff. Twelve years of the Tories has broken our health system and they can't be trusted to fix it.
Labour will scrap non-dom tax status and use the money to train a new generation of doctors and nurses.
