#celebratingeducation quote of the day: knowledge should not purely be gained for the purpose of ‘waiting for a pub quiz that will never happen’ #educationmatters
Today’s React 1 COVID survey results make the strongest case for a phased re-opening of schools to full pupil intakes. A ‘big bang’ reopening on 8th March, with the current high rates of infection and hospitalisation, would jeopardise full and sustained school reopening.
Every child at Eton had a Covid 19 test on arriving at school.
I don't begrudge the children of the super rich having access to Testing.
However, if it's good enough for the children of Eton, its good enough for the children of East London, of Easington and verywhere else.
Radio news! Children are on average 3 months behind. BEHIND WHO? If they’re all “behind” then who the hell is in front? This reporting is not helpful to anyone.
Are you reporting on how far “behind” hospital waiting lists are, or court cases, or MOTs, or or or......🤦♀️
Every teacher, who has a spare hour and wants to learn, grow and educate themselves, needs to watch this. https://t.co/28I1eP1bvd @NEUnion@CelebratingEdu1
Trauma-informed practice means simply, be kind. As @SiobhanHead puts it, it means ‘stepping out from behind your lanyard and bring your human to work’ @CelebratingEdu1@NEUnion#BeKind
Please submit your thoughts on the curriculum to our 'people-powered' report. What curriculum do our students need?

'Learning is a social process... Children need opportunitues to understand the world around them.
We need a curriculum that explores the complexity of the world.' @GawainLittle@CelebratingEdu1#CelebratingEd
@GawainLittle shares his own experience of Maths as a primary school student and the huge importance of inspirational teaching and use of visual representations.
We need a curriculum and pedagogy that focuses on conceptual understanding.

.@SiobhanHead we need to listen, empathise and respond to children. She talks about how children have been transformed by working in smaller groups and taking away the curriculum pressures. Schools need to be trauma informed. @CelebratingEdu1@NEUnion
Really informative meeting happening at @CelebratingEdu1@NEUnion this is being recorded so if you’re not watching, it’ll be available soon! Keep an eye out! - @GavinWilliamson tip for you!
Might not be a popular opinion but I think now would be a good time to completely ditch school uniform. It’s not a social leveller or a good way to disguise social inequality.
I have a question for @educationgovuk Today it has been reported that 26% of patients that have died in hospital of covid19 are diabetic. Why are we expecting diabetic staff and children in school on 1st June with no PPE or social distancing? @neu_durham @NEUnion@cyclingkev
