@maebichka when working with cows a little bit of fear makes them move predictably, acts of aggression make for good stories and then you send them to market, the ones who actually made me suffer would just find a hole in the fence with the angry neighbor and cheerfully eat his good hay

when I think of 1984 I feel like I'd find a lot more ordinary joy than the protagonist does
there's an implicit "the system is bad hence I must oppose it" frame in it that's also very relevant in our culture.
I think that frame feeds the system
I think I still fear the possibility of total control and hope if I materialized in that world there is some latent capacity to be vicious on my way out
@BecomingCritter already have plans to visit C with family for two weeks. very practical to take that out of my budget.

@KelseyTuoc@drethelin@emmma_camp_ "one book" takes me anywhere between 4 hours and 4 months - I'll hold a bit of suspicion for less than 4 or more than 40 books per year as indicators of unbalanced diet but otherwise quantity is a funny metric

Not all that functional to be constantly in a state of future shock anyways, better to worry about what's for breakfast.
