Already drafting in my head a simpler and more realistic goals for next year:
1. Be financially stable enough to afford a decent therapist (if you know my story, you'd understand this is non negotiable / obligatory)
2. And first time in my 'new year goals' - lose weight. Wahaha
Surah Yusuf is so beautiful. It teaches us the closest people can betray you, broken hearts can be healed with love, ease comes after hardship, being sad doesn't equal being ungrateful, and people of patience have beautiful endings.
When you finally realize that someone’s behavior has more to do with their internal struggle than it ever did with you, you learn grace. You also naturally learn detachment as well.
Some delays aren’t logical. Some rejections aren’t personal. Some barriers are spiritual and need spiritual tools.
Why Surah Al-Baqarah?
Because the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Recite Surah Al-Baqarah, for taking it is a blessing and leaving it is a regret.” (Muslim)
What did she do?
She turned to the one thing guaranteed to cleanse:
The Qur’an.
She began reciting Surah Al-Baqarah consistently. Every day. No matter what. And along with it:
– Ruqyah on herself – Daily Istighfar – Salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ – Morning & evening Adhkar – Deep du’a, full of sincerity
And slowly… the invisible heaviness lifted.
Her path opened. She got married.
SubhanAllah. Sometimes, we don’t know why life is stuck.
Your deen is strong
Your character is good You’re doing everything “right”
And still nothing moves. It’s not always laziness or qadr. Sometimes, it’s a spiritual block.
Disappointment is not always a bad thing. When something we dislike happens, we think it’s a mistake. We get upset. We forget that the Almighty is in control. He sees and knows things we don’t. The bigger picture will emerge soon and we will thank Him for His infinite wisdom.
6. The real bottleneck? Executive function.
ADHD makes planning, prioritizing, and starting tasks feel like climbing a mountain.
It’s not laziness.
It’s a brain wiring challenge that needs the right tools.
And the lesson continues:
Allah tells Maryam (AS), “Shake the trunk of the palm tree toward you, and ripe dates will fall upon you.” (19:25)
This is more than a simple command; it is a reminder of agency, of action, even in moments of profound pain. Allah doesn’t expect her to simply wait for relief. He tells her to take a small step, to shake the tree, and in doing so, she will receive the fruits of her efforts.
The biggest blessing in my life is to be born a Muslim and finding my way to Him when I hit rock bottom. Because god knows how many times believing that my patience will be rewarded saves me from jadi gila or commit suicide.
This moment in Surah Maryam offers us a profound model for dealing with emotional pain. It teaches us that when someone is in distress, they do not need to be told to simply “get over it” or “be grateful.” They need understanding, compassion, and reassurance. We are called to validate their emotions, offer comfort, and encourage small steps toward healing, just as Allah did with Maryam (AS).
Even in her grief, Maryam (AS) is reminded that she still has the ability to move, to act, to make a change. She is not powerless, even in her vulnerability.
Then, as the verse continues, Allah further assures her:
"Eat, drink, and find comfort for your eyes." (19:26)
